One of the things that is often talked about but not too many people drink often enough, is green tea. Sure, I see people buy the bottled Lipton Green Tea (which, by the way, is totally awesome!), but you do not get the same health benefits that green tea has to offer when you drink it like that. I used to drink the bottled green tea and thought I was getting all the benefits that are talked about. It wasn't until the recent years that I actually started buying the green tea bags and making it myself. There's just something so relaxing about drinking a hot cup of tea once a day! During my Shakeology 3 day cleanse, I had to drink a glass of plain hot green tea and I actually enjoyed it! Green tea has an awesome taste without all the additives that the commercially packed green teas have in them. So, lets discuss some of the amazing things about green tea!!!
First of all, believe it or not, every type of tea comes from the SAME plant. Whether it is green tea, black tea, white tea, etc. Tea first derived from China from a plant called Camellia Sinensis. What determines the different type of teas is how it is processed and such. Tea is only made up of three components: essential oils, polyphenols, and caffeine.
Essential Oils: These are what gives the green tea the different types of aroma and flavor
Polyphenols: This is what gives the tea all of it's special health benefits
Caffeine: This is what gives the tea it's natural energy lift
It's important to note that if you want the MAXIMUM health benefits of tea, then you should brew it yourself and drink it hot or cold. When you buy it already prepared, buy green tea extract, or as a supplement, there is NO guarantee of how much actual green tea it has in the product. They often times add other things into those products. So be aware of that!
Health Benefits of Green Tea:
This list could SERIOUSLY go on. I mean, there are so many different studies that offer different opinions of what green tea has to offer. I am just going to list the main ones that are mentioned a lot.
-Helps decrease the absorption of iron and folic acid
-Improves cholesterol levels
-Reduces the risk and helps prevent the onset of Parkinson's disease
-Helps prevent certain types of cancers
-Aids in weight loss
Green tea is very rich in antioxidants which helps with promoting optimal blood pressure and a healthy heart. Drink a class a day to enjoy these benefits! After all, what's it going to hurt?!
